Abstract

The Aneurysmal disease is characterized by abnormal dilation of the blood vessels. It can affect vessels in different parts of the body – in the brain (cerebral aneurysms), aorta (aortic aneurysms) or peripheral arteries. Left untreated, aneurysms can rupture, leading to life-threatening bleeding, thrombose that can cause ischemia, or compressing adjacent structures. Risk factors include hypertension, smoking, family history and certain genetic diseases. Rarely, multiple aneurysms occur in different parts of the arterial system.
