Abstract

Due to the high mortality of infective endocarditis (IE) as a result of its complications, the need for timely detection and the difficult decision when to proceed with surgery, we selected a clinical case of a patient with subacute infective endocarditis of the mitral valve, complicated by infarction of the spleen and the difficult decision was made for surgical intervention in the active phase of the disease. Our aim is to show how the "endocardial team", referring to the European guidelines for the treatment of IE and their own experience, despite the great surgical risk, gave a chance to the patient's life.
